Flushed memories

My mind was clear and smooth Endless sand sculpted in flat dunes Then like a tide came the wine And uncovered wood, old wood, seasoned wood Old on the tree, old in the ocean And yesterday’s seaweed And from a week ago, still bulging With pockets of air in strange stalks And jellyfish That made transparent life in transparent water And if dead don’t announce it The order is all gone The shore’s alive with dead things
